Reds’ interim GM Brad Kullman confirmed that RHP Matt Belisle is the PTBN the Reds received from the Braves in exchange for Kent Mercker.
Belisle was the Braves first pick as a second-rounder in 1998. He was 6-8 with a 3.52 ERA at Double-A Greenville this season before being promoted to Triple-A Richmond, where he went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 17 innings. Nice job by the Reds to get someone of Belisle’s caliber for Mercker.

Belisle, acquired from Atlanta for Kent Mercker, should get a callup in September.

RHP Matt Belisle will join the Reds from Triple-A Louisville today.
Belisle was 2-4 with a 3.13 ERA with Louisville. The Reds are short on arms with Graves and Aaron Harang hurting. Belisle should pitch in relief, but could get a start if the team will remove Dan Serafini from the rotation.

The Reds are considering moving Matt Belisle into the starting rotation next year.
He’s been a starter until this year so the move would make sense, and Belisle appears to be fine regardless of his role. ''I’m happy with whatever helps the team win,’' he said. ''I know it’s clichéd. But I really feel that way.’'

Matt Belisle (lower back) had an impressive bullpen session prior to Monday’s game.
“Belisle looked really good today,” said trainer Mark Mann. “He threw for about 11 ½ minutes out in the bullpen and we’re going to see how he responds once he gets here (today) to determine the next step with him.” He will leave for a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday.
