Belisle

Belisle was the Braves first pick as a second-rounder in 1998. He was 6-8 with a 3.52 ERA at Double-A Greenville this season before being promoted to Triple-A Richmond, where he went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 17 innings. Nice job by the Reds to get someone of Belisle’s caliber for Mercker.

Belisle, acquired from Atlanta for Kent Mercker, should get a callup in September.

Belisle was 2-4 with a 3.13 ERA with Louisville. The Reds are short on arms with Graves and Aaron Harang hurting. Belisle should pitch in relief, but could get a start if the team will remove Dan Serafini from the rotation.

He’s been a starter until this year so the move would make sense, and Belisle appears to be fine regardless of his role. ''I’m happy with whatever helps the team win,’' he said. ''I know it’s clichéd. But I really feel that way.’'

Belisle threw 16 pitches in the outing striking out one and allowing no hits. He could return to the Reds’ bullpen later in the week.

Belisle was making his second appearance on his rehab assignment. He’s ready to return whenever the Reds want to activate him.

Belisle feels great and should begin throwing batting practice soon. He could begin a minor league rehab assignment as early as next week.

Belise will throw 30-to-40 pitches in the session. He is still several weeks from returning to the Reds’ bullpen.

Belisle allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings. He will have another rehab outing with Chattanooga on Thursday and could come off the disabled list soon after.

“Belisle looked really good today,” said trainer Mark Mann. “He threw for about 11 ½ minutes out in the bullpen and we’re going to see how he responds once he gets here (today) to determine the next step with him.” He will leave for a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday.
