Angels pitching coach Matt Wise joined the White Sox as their bullpen coach.
Wise had been the Angels’ pitching coach since 2021 and a member of the team’s staff since 2020. In the three years that Wise has been the pitching coach, the Angels rank 20th with a 4.37 ERA. The move will be a step backwards for Wise. There is no news yet on who will take his place in Los Angeles.

Results of the Matt Wise’s MRI on Monday are in, but the Angels are waiting to announce the specific nature of the injury until Wise has a chance to meet with Dr. Lewis Yocum.
It’s possible that Wise is going to need Tommy John surgery.

If Chris Capuano can’t make his start Saturday, the Brewers could call up Matt Wise or Victor Santos to do the job.
Just in case, the Brewers created a 40-man roster spot yesterday by outrighting Travis Phelps to Triple-A Indianapolis. Capuano is scheduled to test his left leg with a bullpen session today. If he feels even the slightest twinge in his quad, he will be scratched from the Saturday start.

Matt Wise is still scheduled to start Saturday despite being pounded in relief Tuesday.
Wise allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Mets, but will still face the Marlins this weekend. Don’t use him.

Matt Wise is the Brewers’ likely starter on Monday.
Although a firm decision has not been made, Manager Ned Yost is leaning towards starting Wise. Chris Capuano is not ready to pitch for Monday but should be fine by Saturday, so whomever starts for Milwaukee will be a one-time starter. There is no need to grab Wise in your fantasy pool.

The Brewers intend to split fifth starter duties this month between Matt Wise, Dave Burba, and Matt Kinney.
Milwaukee only needs a fifth man three times, so each of these relievers is slated for a start.

Matt Wise picked up his first career save by pitching a scoreless 10th inning tonight against the Phillies.
Wise received the opportunity because Derrick Turnbow had pitched three straight days.

Brewers placed RHP Matt Wise on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 9, with a strained left intercostal.
This hurts, even if Wise hasn’t been quite as effective lately. Justin Lehr and Dava Eveland will begin getting more work in close games.
