Povse

Povse cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. He’ll likely open the year in Tacoma’s rotation.

The Mariners needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Hunter Strickland, and Povse was the odd-man out. There’s a decent chance that the 24-year-old hurler could pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as bullpen depth for the Mariners.

He registered five strikeouts while only letting up two hits and one walk. Povse took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before yielding a one-out single to Pensacola starting pitcher Sal Romano. The right-hander is now undefeated with a 2.45 ERA in his last eight starts. He started the year with High-A Carolina but earned a promotion by going 5-5 with a 3.71 ERA in 15 outings.

Povse, 23, posted a 3.36 ERA and 139/29 K/BB ratio over 158 innings between High- and Double-A in 2016. He could be pushed to Triple-A to begin 2017.

Povse, 23, holds a 3.46 ERA and 32/14 K/BB ratio over 39 innings for Arkansas this season. He’ll work in relief for Seattle and will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.

He allowed three runs over 2 2/3 relief innings in his first stint in the majors. Povse is getting “promotion” here of sorts, as he was originally called up from Double-A Arkansas.

He’s clearing out for the arrival of David Phelps. Povse has allowed five runs -- three earned -- over 3 2/3 relief innings with the big club this season.

The Mariners cleared a roster spot for him by sending Sam Gaviglio down to Triple-A. The right-hander holds a dreadful 10.13 ERA in the majors this year, though that’s come from an extremely small sample size (2 2/3 innings). He’ll work in middle relief.

That clears a spot for reliever Max Povse. Gaviglio has lost his last four starts while contributing a 6.65 ERA during that span. He’ll be back eventually.

Povse fanned seven and walked one while limiting Salem to just one hit. He had to settle for a no-decision as neither team scored until extra innings. The 23-year-old North Carolina native set down 10 in a row after allowing a two-out triple to Yoan Moncada in the third inning. A third-round pick out of UNC-Greensboro, Povse owns a 3.70 ERA across 30 minor league appearances since 2014.
