Blue Jays shut down rookie Devon Travis with shoulder injury

Devon Travis aggravated a weeks-long shoulder injury Saturday and after sitting out five straight games the Blue Jays finally decided to place the rookie second baseman on the disabled list.

Travis has been a huge bright spot for Toronto this season, winning the Opening Day job as a 24-year-old and hitting .271 with seven homers and an .839 OPS in 36 games. However, since suffering the initial shoulder injury from a bad hop to the collarbone on April 30 he’s hit just .185 in 14 games.

Utility infielder Munenori Kawasaki was called up from Triple-A to take Travis’ spot on the roster, but Steven Tolleson has been filling in at second base.
