CINCINNATI -- Bronson Arroyo was in town Wednesday. He took Reds clubhouse guys, Rick Stowe and Josh Stewart, to lunch at the Holy Grail.
But this visit wasn’t just a social one.
Arroyo, a free agent, is interested returning to the Reds. Arroyo said he had breakfast recently with Reds manager Bryan Price and the two talked about Arroyo returning.
Arroyo missed all of 2015 and made only 14 appearances in 2014 following Tommy John surgery.
He expects to be fully ready for the beginning of the 2016 season, telling Fay on Wednesday that his elbow “finally started feeling 100 percent five days ago.”
Cincinnati has entered into a full rebuild, but the 2016 squad is going to need somebody to eat innings and Arroyo might make some practical sense on a low-base, high-incentive one-year deal. If he pitches well and proves his health, he could become an early trade chip.
The veteran right-hander pitched to a 3.82 ERA and 1.20 WHIP between 2012-2014.
