Some big news here for the Astros, who have fallen out of the postseason mix but still have a pretty good shot with four games to play.
Carlos Gomez is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Mariners after missing 16 straight games with an intercostal strain. He did pinch run on Sunday and play some outfield on Monday, but this will be his first time swinging a bat in a live game since September 12.
Gomez has been a disappointment for Houston since being acquired from the Brewers on July 30, batting just .234/.282/.379 in 40 games. There’s still time for the 29-year-old center fielder to make a significant, positive impact.
