Per Nick Groke of The Athletic, pitcher Chad Bettis has announced his retirement from baseball. The right-hander, who signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in February, said, “Today I am walking away from the game with my head held high, knowing that I pushed my body as far as it could go physically.”

Bettis, 31, was selected by the Rockies in the second round of the 2010 draft and remained with the organization through 2019. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in late 2016. Bettis triumphantly returned to the majors in August 2017.

Over parts of seven seasons in the majors, Bettis went 31-31 with a 5.12 ERA, 431 strikeouts and 210 walks over 600 2/3 innings.
