Chris Nelson clears waivers, stays with Angels at Triple-A

Colorado Rockies v Detroit Tigers

Chris Nelson will finally stick around somewhere for a while, although unfortunately for him it’ll be Triple-A. Nelson went from the Rockies to the Yankees to the Angels in the span of three weeks last month, first being traded and then being claimed off waivers.

Both times he was a short-term stop gap for a team in need of some infield help, but this time the Angels designated Nelson for assignment and the 27-year-old former top-10 pick cleared waivers. That means the other 29 teams passed on him and Nelson will remain in the Angels’ organization at Triple-A, which is quite a fall considering he was the Rockies’ starting third baseman for much of last season and hit .301 with an .810 OPS (thanks mostly to Coors Field, but still).
