Rangers starter Cole Hamels joined the 2,000 strikeout club on Sunday afternoon with a third-inning strikeout of Leonys Martin. Hamels ultimately went seven innings, allowing a lone run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out five, helping the Rangers beat the Mariners 6-4.

Hamels, 32, is the 77th member of the 2,000 strikeout club. His current total of 2,003 ranks seventh among active pitchers in strikeouts, trailing CC Sabathia, Bartolo Colon, Felix Hernandez, Jake Peavy, John Lackey, and Justin Verlander.

On the season, Hamels is 6-1 with a 3.14 ERA and an 81/32 K/BB ratio over 83 innings.

Zack Greinke will likely be the next pitcher to join the 2,000 strikeout club as he’s currently sitting on 1,960.
