Cole Hamels had a pair of surgeries Friday, neither of which are expected to impact his availability for the start of the 2012 season.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that the southpaw underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia and had loose bodies removed from his left elbow.
The Phillies announced that Hamels should be ready to begin a throwing a program in approximately 3-4 weeks, so he is fully expected to be ready for spring training.
Hamels, who turns 28 in December, went 14-9 with a 2.79 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 194/44 K/BB ratio in 216 innings over 31 starts this season. He earned $9.5 million in 2011 in the final year of a three-year, $20.5 million contract and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.
