Cole Hamels will test his sore left shoulder Wednesday by throwing a bullpen session

Cole Hamels arrived at the Phillies’ spring training complex last month with tendinitis in his left shoulder and then suffered a setback last Friday. He’s hoping this week will finally bring some amount of progress.

CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury reports that Hamels is scheduled to toss a bullpen session Wednesday in camp. The ace left-hander had to cancel a live BP workout last week due to fatigue, but he is now feeling improved strength in his throwing shoulder.

Hamels is already in danger of missing all of April and if Wednesday’s session doesn’t go well we could be talking about a much lengthier delay.

Hamels, 30, posted a 3.60 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 220 innings last season.

He signed a six-year, $144 million contract with Philadelphia in July 2012.
