Daniel Murphy could miss most or all of the rest of the season

Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is looking at “quite a lengthy DL stint”, according to manager Terry Collins. The implication being that, with 28 games remaining entering tonight’s game against the Phillies, the season may run out before Murphy is truly healthy enough to return.

Murphy went on the disabled list on Monday with a strained right calf. As a result, the Mets called up infield prospect Dilson Herrera from Double-A Binghamton. Murphy still leads the league in hits with 159 but will lose his hold on that honor as his DL stint progresses. He has a .301/.343/.424 slash line with nine home runs, 53 RBI, and 13 stolen bases.
