Desmond Jennings is one of the truly elite prospects in baseball, ranking No. 6 on Baseball America’s annual top 100 list, but things aren’t going smoothly for him this spring. Jennings was plunked on the elbow in his very first Grapefruit League at-bat, missed a few days, returned to the lineup, and then sprained his left wrist Monday while trying to steal a base. Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports that Jennings will be in a splint for a week or so and is expected to miss “at least” two weeks overall. Ultimately he wasn’t going to make the Opening Day roster anyway, but as Mooney notes “it would have been fun to watch him play a little longer” before heading to Triple-A.
