Diamondbacks among teams with interest in free agent starter Yovani Gallardo

Yovani Gallardo had a very good 2015 season for the Texas Rangers, posting a 3.42 ERA (124 ERA+) in 184 1/3 innings and then starting Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Blue Jays. And now he’s set to cash in on the free agent market -- even one that is stacked with high-quality starting pitchers.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Diamondbacks -- who got a 23rd-ranked 4.37 ERA from their starters in 2015 -- are one of the teams interested in adding Gallardo this winter.

Texas offered Gallardo a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer, so his free agency is tied to draft pick compensation. But that shouldn’t damage his bottom line too much.

He’s been around a long time but is only 29 years old.
