The Dodgers announced today that outfielder Carl Crawford has been designated for assignment and catcher/infielder Austin Barnes has been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Crawford, 34, was injured in each of the four years he spent with the Dodgers, never playing in more than 116 games in any one season. In aggregate, he hit a mediocre .278/.320/.400 with declining defense and waning speed, making him a shadow of the player he was with the Rays.

Crawford is owed the remainder of his $20.75 million salary for the 2016 season as well as $21 million next season. Any team interested in signing Crawford would only have to pay the prorated major league minimum.
