Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Dodgers plan to hire a new manager “no later than Monday” -- as in, tomorrow.
Gabe Kapler, Darin Erstad, Bud Black, and Dave Roberts were revealed to be the finalists last week. And we can cross a few names off that list because Erstad has taken himself out of the running to focus on family and Black is reportedly joining the Angels’ front office. So it’ll be Kapler or Roberts, unless there’s a darkhorse candidate.
Don Mattingly parted ways with the Dodgers in November and quickly signed a four-year deal to manage the Marlins. He was 446-363 in LA.
Big payroll, big city, big expectations.
