While the Los Angeles Dodgers have all but ruled out Yasiel Puig for their first-round playoff series against the New York Mets, the outfielder will continue to work out in Arizona with an eye toward being activated in time for the National League Championship Series, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Puig has been on the shelf since August 27 with a strained right hamstring and was only running at about 70 percent strength as of this weekend. He also missed 38 games earlier this year with a strained left hamstring.

The Dodgers are lined up to take on the Mets in the best-of-five NLDS. There isn’t a breezy first-round matchup in the National League, but this one looks especially tough for Los Angeles.

We might not see Puig again until 2016.
