Fox Sports has announced that it has hired Alex Rodriguez as a full-time baseball analyst.

A-Rod has, of course, contributed to the Fox playoff production over the past two years. And he’s been pretty great. He’s quick and insightful. Unlike a lot of ex-players -- especially the recently retired ones -- he’s not afraid to criticize. His status as a superstar likewise helps in that he’ll probably never worry about pulling punches. I mean, let’s face it, he was better than almost everyone he’s going to be analyzing. He’s obviously telegenic and surprisingly witty on the broadcasts as well.

His new role is not 100% clear, but he’s on a multi-year deal and will do both studio work and in-game work in the booth on some Saturdays.

You may not like A-Rod the player, but he’s a pretty darn good hire by Fox.
