Francisco Cordero has officially announced his retirement, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes (news via MLB Trade Rumors). If this surprises you that’s OK given that Cordero has not pitched in the big leagues since 2012.
Cordero appeared in 800 games with the Tigers, Rangers, Reds, Blue Jays, Brewers and Astros between 1999 and 2012. He sat out all of 2013 following shoulder surgery and last attempted to come back in the spring of 2014, failing to catch on with the Red Sox. For his career he had a 47-53 record and a 3.38 ERA (135 ERA+) and K/BB ratio of 796/375 in 824.2 innings.
He should be a first ballot inductee to the Hall of Oh Yeah, That Guy, I Sort of Remember Him when eligible following the 2016 season.
