Giants general manager Brian Sabean talked to the local media about various offseason doings today and revealed that he thinks left-handed reliever Javier Lopez is “very close to signing back with us.”

Sabean told Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com that “we are fully engaged with Lopez” and hope to have a deal finalized soon.

Lopez has long been one of the best left-handed specialists in baseball, posting a 2.26 ERA in four seasons with the Giants, including a 1.83 mark this year at age 35. Two years ago he signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal to stay with San Francisco.
