Jair Jurrjens sidelined indefinitely after feeling “pop” in hamstring

Bad news for the Braves. Jair Jurrjens, who was expected to return from the disabled list to start against the Diamondbacks this weekend, felt a “pop” in his left hamstring while running on the field on Monday, according to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It doesn’t sound good. According to O’Brien, Jurrjens “went down in a heap,” feeling a pop in a lower part of the muscle than what landed him on the disabled list on April 30. Jurrjens is scheduled to undergo an MRI when the Braves return home later this week.

The setback presents another opportunity for Kris Medlen. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings against the Phillies on Saturday afternoon and owns a 2.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP to go along with an impressive 19/3 K/BB ratio over 22 innings this season.
