From MASN’s Roch Kubatko comes word that Rays first baseman James Loney had to be scratched from the starting lineup for Tuesday evening’s game against the Orioles after tweaking a muscle in his right side during pregame batting practice.
Logan Forsythe has been shifted from designated hitter to first base and Brandon Guyer is now at DH against Baltimore left-hander Wei-Yin Chen.
The severity of Loney’s side injury is unknown.
If it’s an oblique or intercostal strain, he will likely have to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
