Tensions were running high last night after Angels right-hander Jered Weaver hit Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager with a pitch. Weaver was annoyed with Seager repeatedly calling timeout in the batter’s box and threw at him on the very next pitch. He was immediately ejected from the ballgame.
Seager said after the game that Weaver “quit on his team” by deciding to throw at him rather than let the issue go and just pitch. Here was Weaver’s rebuttal today:

This is Seager’s fifth season in the majors and Weaver has faced him on 35 occasions. Not to mention that Seager made the All-Star team last year and even won a Gold Glove Award at third base. Nice try, but the whole pretending to not know who someone is thing isn’t going to work in this instance.
Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that MLB is looking into the incident, but that Weaver is unlikely to be suspended. He’s pretty fortunate, if that’s the case.
