Marlins ace Jose Fernandez has been on the disabled list since August 8 with a right biceps strain and he missed 13 months before that following Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
But we haven’t seen the last of the 23-year-old right-hander for 2015.
Marlins manager Dan Jennings told Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Fernandez has looked sharp in his latest bullpen sessions and is lined up to return to the starting rotation between September 12 and 17. “I think that’s realistic,” said Jennings. “That probably gives him a chance to have three to four starts. It gives him and all of us, us peace of mind going into the offseason.”
Fernandez has a 2.30 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 53/10 K/BB ratio in 43 innings (seven starts) this year for the Fish. He holds a 2.26 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 310 strikeouts in 267 1/3 total major league frames.
