Kolten Wong has been fantastic since being called back up from Triple-A by the Cardinals three weeks ago, hitting .295 with five steals and a .777 OPS in 17 games--including his first career grand slam--but now the rookie second baseman could be sidelined by an injury.
Wong exited last night’s game with left shoulder pain two days after originally injuring his shoulder while trying to make a diving play defensively. Wong told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post Dispatch that he aggravated the shoulder injury on a swing and tried to remain in the game, but eventually had to leave.
If he needs to miss extended time the Cardinals will turn back to veteran Mark Ellis, who briefly held the second base job when they decided to demote Wong back to Triple-A last month.
