Longtime A’s star Eric Chavez takes front office job with Angels

Eric Chavez

Eric Chavez, who spent 13 of his 17 big-league seasons with the A’s, has now joined the AL West rival Angels as a special assistant to new general manager Billy Eppler.

Chavez retired following the 2014 season and took a job as a special assignment scout with the Yankees, where Eppler was the longtime assistant general manager before leaving for the Angels this month.

I’m sure Chavez working for the enemy is tough for a lot of A’s fans to picture given how beloved he was in Oakland, but he clearly wants to pursue a front office career and Eppler’s new-look Angels front office is a good opportunity for the 37-year-old former star third baseman.
