MLB.com’s Greg Johns reports that Mariners outfield prospect Boog Powell has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. The substance, Johns explains, was dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid.

Powell, 23, was rated the Mariners’ eighth-best prospect by MLB Pipeline. This season at Triple-A Tacoma, he was hitting .270/.326/.359 with three home runs and 27 RBI in 277 plate appearances.

Powell’s suspension is effective immediately. He released a statement, which Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times posted:

This Boog Powell has no relation to former major leaguer Boog Powell, who spent 17 seasons in the majors from 1961-77, mostly with the Orioles.
