Making official what was reported last week, the Marlins and Miguel Tejada have agreed to a minor-league contract.
Tejada is still serving a 105-game suspension for amphetamines--he earned it by testing positive three different times--so the 40-year-old former MVP will report to Single-A and wait to be cleared for game action.
He can no longer handle shortstop defensively and hasn’t been an above-average hitter since 2009, but the Marlins apparently feel it’s still worth looking past the suspension to have him around. Last season he hit .288 with three homers and a .695 OPS in 53 games as a part-time player for the Royals.
