Mets starter’s Jenrry Mejia grounded out to second base, ending a three-run third inning for his team. But it also set an ignominious record, as Mets pitchers to that point were 0-for-46 at the plate since the start of the 2014 regular season. Per ESPN’s Adam Rubin, that’s the worst start in the modern era for a group of pitchers to start a season.
Mejia extended it further with a ground out to end the fifth inning, making Mets pitchers 0-for-47.
