Rogers Hornsby once said “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
The late Commissioner Bart Giamatti once wrote that baseball “is designed to break your heart.”
Last night Noah Syndergaard tweeted some words which seem to fit very well alongside those two famous quotes:
Baseball has a way of ripping your ❤️ out, stabbing it, putting it back in your chest, then healing itself just in time for Spring Training.

Maybe the imagery is not quite as poetic as Giamatti’s or Hornsby’s, but the sentiment is a nice hybrid of the two.
