Orioles now expected to re-sign Darren O’Day
There was a report Saturday calling the Nationals the front-runner for free agent reliever Darren O’Day, but it looks like the Orioles are ready to step up and do what it takes to keep him.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman says O’Day is “likely heading back to Baltimore.”
Something a little more official should be coming soon, and it figures to have a domino effect on the rest of the relief pitching market at this week’s Winter Meetings in Nashville. There aren’t too many attractive free agents in that regard, but a big Aroldis Chapman trade looms.
O’Day registered a fantastic 1.52 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and 82/14 K/BB ratio in 65 1/3 innings this past season for the O’s. He boasts a 1.92 ERA in 263 innings since 2012.
