The Pirates announced on Tuesday that pitcher Buddy Boshers has been acquired off a trade waiver claim from the Astros. Boshers will report to Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates designated outfielder Chris Bostick for assignment.

Boshers, 30, has spent his 2018 season with Triple-A Fresno, pitching to a 3.18 ERA with a 55/15 K/BB ratio in 51 innings of relief. The lefty has pitched parts of three seasons in the majors with the Angels and Twins, posting a 4.59 ERA with 78 strikeouts and 25 walks over 86 1/3 innings.

Aside from closer Felipe Vásquez, the Pirates don’t have any lefties in their bullpen. Boshers will likely get a call-up at some point and pitch out of the major league bullpen down the stretch.
