Jason Heyward had no shortage of suitors this offseason, but Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the 26-year-old outfielder has narrowed down his list of “finalists” to the Cardinals, Cubs, and Angels.
This morning there was speculation that Heyward was nearly ready to make a decision on what will almost surely be a contract in excess of $200 million.
Not many free agents hit the open market at age 26 and Heyward brings to the table the combination of above-average hitting, plus speed, and excellent defense in all three outfield spots. He’s the type of player a team can build around for the better part of a decade and in fact it’s possible he could be looking for a 10-year contract.
