Report: Rangers sign Zach McAllister to one-year, $1 million deal
The Rangers have signed pitcher Zach McAllister to a one-year, $1 million contract, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reports.
McAllister, 31, was released by the Indians in August last season and quickly signed with the Tigers. However, he made just three appearances for the Tigers before being designated for assignment. The Dodgers signed him to a minor league contract near the end of August, making five appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City before the season ended.
McAllister was once part of the Indians’ starting rotation, but transitioned into a full-time reliever beginning in 2015. Aside from last year, he has had good results, owning a 3.63 ERA with 243 strikeouts and 77 walks across 228 1/3 innings over the last four seasons.
The Rangers seem to be good bet to have a bullpen spot available for McAllister on the Opening Day roster, provided he performs well and stays healthy throughout spring training.
