According to beat writer Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, the Royals have non-tendered former closer Greg Holland. He is now free to sign with any team, though there’s already been talk of the injured reliever returning to KC on a two-year, incentives-driven contract.

Holland underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery at the end of the 2015 regular season and will miss all of 2016. But he should be 100 percent leading into the 2017 campaign and he registered a sparkling 1.86 ERA with 113 saves in 256 1/3 innings for the Royals between 2011-2014.

Wade Davis served as the Royals’ closer during their run to the 2015 World Series title and will open the 2016 season in that same role.

Kansas City also non-tendered infielder Orlando Calixte on Wednesday.
