Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Or the time before that. Or the time before that. But yeah, it happened again: Scott Kazmir gave up six runs on five hits in an inning and two-thirds, while walking three and hitting a batter.
The competition: a Sacramento team which can’t have much of an offense, because if they had any super duper hitters they’d be playing in Oakland right now given how weak the A’s are.
As each of those previous reports made increasingly clear, Scott Kazmir’s days in the Angels organization are almost over. A pitcher is limited to 30 days for a rehab stint, and Kazmir has almost reached it. He may have time for one more start, but even if it’s a three-hit shutout with 11Ks, it can’t honestly be enough to give the Angels confidence that he can contribute to the big club.
Which means Kazmir is almost certain to be DFA’d and -- since no one is going to trade for him and his $14.5 million deal -- subsequently released.
