The New York Time’s Richard Sandomir has the backstory on how Mark McGwire’s confession came to be. In blog years this is very old -- it came out last night for cryin’ out loud -- but it’s definitely worth a read:
The one-day plan -- coordinated over the past month by Ari Fleischer, a former White House press secretary who runs a crisis-communications company, and the St. Louis Cardinals, who recently hired McGwire as their batting coach -- contrasts with last year’s roll-out of Alex Rodriguez’s steroid admission.
Given that George Bush’s former spokesman was involved, I have no idea how anyone can doubt McGwire’s candor and sincerity.
Save it. I’m kidding. Read the article. It’s actually pretty interesting.
