Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday afternoon ahead of his evening start against the Braves. Unfortunately, he lasted only 2 1/3 innings before leaving with an apparent injury. It’s not yet known what exactly the issue is, but MASN’s Dan Kolko noted that Strasburg threw a fastball “way off the mark” and had been “grimacing” after each of his final three pitches. Strasburg made a fist after the third-to-last pitch.
Needless to say, this will be concerning to the Nationals, who signed Strasburg to a seven-year, $175 million contract extension back in May. The club should offer an update on Strasburg’s injury shortly.
In recording seven outs on Wednesday night, Strasburg kept the Braves off the board on two hits with on walks and four strikeouts on 42 pitches. Sean Burnett came in to relieve Strasburg.
