Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported that the Mariners hired a mariachi band to follow outfielder Leonys Martin around wherever he went on Monday, his 29th birthday.

Teammate Kyle Seager paid for the band and then paid even more money to keep them around for an extra hour.

It’s certainly an interesting way to celebrate a player’s birthday and it seemed like everyone had a lot of fun. Kudos to manager Scott Servais for going along with it. As Divish pointed out, the idea probably wouldn’t have been allowed under former Mariners manager Eric Wedge.
