Just a couple of days ago it appeared that the Mariners and Nelson Cruz were slated to come to an agreement. Not so fast. Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the talks between the sides are “on hold.”
Why, exactly, is unclear. Could be a financial issue, could be just a change of plans of the M’s. Maybe they realized that, without Franklin Gutierrez around, they could use someone who isn’t a corner guy, though there aren’t many of those available at the moment.
In any event, if this deprives me of seeing an outfield of Logan Morrison, Nelson Cruz and Corey Hart playing all at once, I’m gonna be a little miffed.
