Today is Mike Trout’s 25th birthday. MLB’s Stat of the Day Twitter account noted that he’s played on his birthday four times and homered in three of those games. While he didn’t homer today -- in fact, he struck out four times -- he did rob Leonys Martin of a grand slam.

Angels starter Matt Shoemaker found himself in a bit of a pickle. Opening up the bottom of the fourth inning, he allowed three consecutive singles to allow the Mariners to tie the game at 1-1. He then hit Adam Lind with a pitch to load the bases. On his first pitch to Martin, Shoemaker tossed an 85 MPH change-up right down the middle. Martin put a good swing on it, sending a fly ball to straightaway center field. Trout ranged back, timed his leap, and snagged the ball with his wrist over the fence. Kyle Seager, on third base, scored on what became a sacrifice fly. Trout saved three runs, though Shoemaker would allow one more before the frame was ended.
