The Yankees paid tribute to Hall of Famer and American icon Yogi Berra prior to tonight’s game against the White Sox at Yankee Stadium. Berra, a three-time MVP and an 18-time All-Star, passed away late Tuesday at the age of 90.

It was a touching ceremony. As part of the tribute, both teams stood outside their respective dugouts before a video montage of Berra’s career was shown on the scoreboard. There was a moment of silence before Yankees manager Joe Girardi, appropriately flanked by fellow catchers Brian McCann, Austin Romine and Gary Sanchez, placed a flower arrangement in the shape of a No. 8 behind home plate. A Navy bugler then played “Taps,” recognizing Berra’s service in the Navy during World War II and D-Day.
