Jeff Passan reports that the White Sox have signed James McCann. The details of the contract -- term, money -- is not yet available, and the deal is pending a physical.

McCann was non-tendered by the Tigers last month and figured to be Welington Castillo’s backup on the South Side. McCann, who for a time was poised to be the Tigers’ long-term starting catcher, took a big step backward with the bat last year batting .220/.267/.314 with eight homers.
