The White Sox just announced the signing of free agent first baseman Justin Morneau to a one-year, $1 million deal. He has been placed on the 15-day disabled list as he is still recovering from offseason elbow surgery.

Morneau, 35, spent last season with the Rockies but accrued only 182 plate appearances, hitting .310/.363/.458. Along with the elbow injury, Morneau has battled concussion issues for most of this decade.

If Morneau recovers well and shows enough left in the tank once he begins a rehab assignment, he could serve as a bench bat and occasional DH for the White Sox.
