Kansas City rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth inning Saturday to stun the Mets with a 5-3 Game 4 victory, taking a 3-1 lead in this best-of-seven World Series. And now it could be all over on Sunday night.
The Game: Kansas City Royals vs. New York Mets
The Time: 8:07 p.m. ET
The Place: Citi Field
The Channel: FOX
The Starters: Edinson Volquez vs. Matt Harvey
The Upshot: The lead here is Volquez, who flew home to the Dominican Republic to bury his father after posting a quality start in Game 1 on Tuesday night in Kansas City. He returned to the team Saturday with a mission:
“I wish he could be here right now and enjoy every game that I pitch,” Volquez told reporters. “And tomorrow I’m going to be thinking of my mom, and the rest of my family is going to be so happy to see me pitch. My mom told me before I got here: `Go over there and enjoy the game like you always do and be proud. We are proud of you.’”
Volquez said he plans to write his dad’s name -- Daniel Volquez -- inside his hat or glove.
Trying to keep the Mets alive will be Matt Harvey, who was good but not great for the first six innings of Game 1’s 14-inning marathon. He’s up to 208 innings on the year after early-September suggestions of a 180-inning shutdown. But, uh, put that aside. This is the last game he’ll pitch in 2015 and New York needs him to force the Fall Classic back to KC. Gotham needs a hero.
