Yoenis Cespedes: “I am not 100 percent” healthy

Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes exited Game 4 of the NLCS with a left shoulder injury, but he received a cortisone injection and is expected to play every game in the World Series.

At one point during Monday’s media session Cespedes claimed that he was feeling “110 percent” healthy, but he later backtracked from that and admitted his shoulder remains an issue.

Here’s what he told Marly Rivera of ESPN Radio:

I still feel a little discomfort--nothing compared to what I felt in Chicago, when I had to leave the game. It will not prevent me from swinging, but I am not 100 percent. I’m not playing with a full tank.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York writes today that “his shoulder will not be fully healthy during the World Series.”

At this point in the season there are a lot of players dealing with a lot of minor and not-so-minor injuries, so Cespedes will not be alone playing at less than 100 percent, but the severity of his shoulder issues could be a key factor against the Royals.

Whatever the case, Cespedes will be starting in center field and batting cleanup in Game 1 tonight.
