Vespi was in camp this spring with the Phillies as a non-roster invitee and has spent the entire season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 29-year-old lefty was lit up to the tune of a boated 7.85 ERA across 18 1/3 innings (20 appearances) before being cut loose over the weekend.

Castro represents the lone position player shipped out to minor league camp in the latest batch of Phillies cuts. There are a handful of notable relief options sent packing here with Vespi, McMillion, Zuniga, Cuas and Kuhnel all likely to get chances in Philadelphia as middle relief depth. Aoyagi pitched well in three spring appearances after signing a minor-league contract with the Phillies. He’ll open the year back at Triple-A Lehigh Valley as extra depth.

The 29-year-old had been with the Orioles previously and had posted a 3.88 ERA in 53 1/3 innings over the last three seasons. He should provide organizational relief depth for the Phillies.

The 28-year-old southpaw had been designated for assignment last weekend, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and accepted the assignment. Vespi will continue to provide bullpen depth from the left side for the Orioles.

Vespi is off the 40-man roster, and the Orioles are using that room to claim Brooks Riske off waivers from the Reds. Vespi will now hit the waiver wire himself, and if he’s unclaimed he likely will report back to Triple-A Norfolk.

Vespi was optioned as a corresponding move for the Orioles to activate Keegan Akin from the paternity list. He has a 2.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for Baltimore this year.

Selby pitched well for the Orioles, allowing two earned runs in six innings while walking four and striking out four. However, he threw 59 pitches in two games during the series against the Mets, so the Orioles will call up Nick Vespi as a fresh arm for the bullpen.
