Rockies optioned C Braxton Fulford to Triple-A Albuquerque; Reassigned INF Nicky Lopez, INF/OF Chad Stevens and LHP Parker Mushinski to minor league camp.
No real surprises among this batch of cuts for the Rockies. These moves get them down to 36 players remaining in major league camp as we inch closer to Opening Day. Look for them to finalize their roster in the coming days. Fulford hit .213/.267/.324 in 120 plate appearances with the Rockies last year, but slugged .714 in 171 Triple-A plate appearances and figures to be their third catcher this season.
  • COL 2nd Baseman #12
Rockies signed INF Nicky Lopez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Lopez fortifies Colorado’s infield depth and will compete for a bench role as a defensive specialist in spring training after spending most of last season at the Triple-A level, hitting .267/.303/.317 with zero homers and seven steals across 70 games. The light-hitting 30-year-old got into 18 games between the Cubs and Angels this past season, going just 1-for-24 at the dish. He’s merely emergency organizational depth at this stage of his career.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #12
Cubs signed INF Nicky Lopez to a minor league contract.
Lopez heads back to Chicago after he left the Cubs in May. The 30-year-old infielder also has spent time with the Diamondbacks and Yankees organizations in 2025. He’s unlikely to be more than a minor-league depth piece.
  • FA 2nd Baseman #12
Nicky Lopez opted out of his minor league deal with the Yankees.
Lopez signed with the Yankees back on July 3, and the infielder didn’t get the promotion to the active roster. He’ll likely be looking at another minor-league contract, but with a team that may have a need for his services over the final two months at the highest level.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman #12
Yankees signed INF Nicky Lopez to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old infielder opted out of his minor league deal with the Diamondbacks a few days ago in search of greener pastures. He has appeared in 18 games at the big league level this season, slashing a dreadful .042/.179/.042 with zero homers, one RBI and a 4/4 K/BB ratio in 28 plate appearances between the Cubs and Angels. He’ll add infield depth for the Bombers.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #12
Diamondbacks signed INF Nicky Lopez to a minor league contract.
Lopez provides Arizona with some emergency infield depth after both Garrett Hampson and Ildemaro Vargas left the organization in recent days. The 30-year-old defensive wizard got into 18 games earlier this season between the Angels and Cubs.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #12
Cubs sent INF Nicky Lopez outright to Triple-A Iowa.
Lopez will remain with the Cubs as extra organizational infield depth after being removed from the club’s 40-man roster earlier this week. The 30-year-old defensive specialist went 1-for-18 in a 14-game stint with Chicago.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #12
Cubs designated INF Nicky Lopez for assignment.
Lopez went 1-for-18 with an RBI and four walks in his four weeks with the Cubs. He’s also spent time with the Angels this season, though he went 0-for-6 in four games for that club before being DFA’d.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #8
Cubs signed INF Nicky Lopez to a one-year contract.
Lopez elected free agency after being designated for assignment and rejecting an outright assignment to Triple-A by the Angels. Lopez will be a helper with his glove at multiple positions, but he doesn’t have nearly enough offensive upside to suggest as a fantasy option.
  • LAA 2nd Baseman #8
Nicky Lopez has elected free agency.
Lopez went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week once Zach Neto returned from the injured list. The 30-year-old defensive specialist should be able to latch on somewhere as emergency infield depth.
