Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says that Cuevas will earn $575,000 if in the majors. The 28-year-old has hit .230/.265/.311 over parts of the last two seasons with the Rockies.

This move clears a 40-man roster spot for Drew Butera, who has joined the Rockies as an emergency third catcher. Cuevas, 27, is a career .230/.265/.311 hitter in 155 plate appearances at the major league level.

Cuevas is recovered from the left quad strain that sent him to the IL back in mid-April, but the Rockies don’t have a spot for him right now on their major league roster. The 27-year-old outfielder is a career .230/.265/.311 hitter in 75 games at baseball’s highest level.

Cuevas suffered the injury in Monday night’s game against the Padres. Yonathan Daza, who was just optioned, will be brought back to take his Cuevas’ place on the Rockies’ active 25-man roster.

Cuevas is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list. He was just called up earlier in the day.

Cuevas hit only .233/.268/.315 in 75 games for the Rockies last season. He’s starting in left field Monday and could see a little time versus lefties.

Cuevas, 25, batted .296/.331/.414 with three homers and 35 RBI over 94 games between Double- and Triple-A this past season. He’s likely headed back to Triple-A to begin 2017.

Cuevas was off to a .333/.419/.571 start with two homers and two steals for Albuquerque. The 26-year-old will make his major league debut Sunday.

The hits were the first of his career, as he was hitless in his first four at-bats after making his major league debut on Sunday against the Cubs. Cuevas has the ability to play all three outfield positions so he could stick around if he continues to hit. However, he is only worth a look in the deepest of NL fantasy formats at this juncture.

Cuevas has hit .243/.280/.331 in the majors but hit a much healthier .331/.390/.538 in 44 games at Triple-A. Cuevas will likely be one of the first bats off the bench for the Rockies in September.
