Liriano

Liriano was struggling in his first year in Triple-A, posting a 5.20 ERA in 21 starts and eight relief appearances. He has a chance to become a decent reliever, but it’s not likely to happen right now.

Liriano, 24, had a 5.20 ERA in 21 starts and eight relief appearances in his first year in Triple-A, but he came up and did a decent job for the Brewers in September. While he is going to need at least a few more months in Triple-A, his sinker-slider combination may eventually be useful in middle relief.

Liriano made the Phillies out of spring training, but he was sent down on Apr. 19 and hadn’t been seen since. He ended up with a 3.90 ERA in 17 starts and five relief appearances for the Red Barons. He’ll need to pitch quite well this month in order to keep a 40-man roster spot over the winter.

Liriano appeared in 11 games for the Brewers in 2004 and finished 0-0 with a 4.02 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. He can thank Vicente Padilla going to the DL for his chance to begin 2005 in the majors.

Liriano, picked up from the Angels in the Alex Ochoa deal, had given up two runs in three innings this spring. He could see time in the majors during the second half of the season.

Liriano have up six runs in 7 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old will be a part of the pen at Triple-A Fresno.

Liriano, who was released by the Phillies last month, had a 3.90 ERA in 17 starts and five relief appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. Just 25, he still could have a future as a reliever.

Liriano, who was kept over Amaury Telemaco this spring, made just three appearances in two weeks, allowing four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Liriano, who was claimed off waivers from the Brewers a year ago, had a 3.90 ERA in 17 starts and five relief appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and a 10.57 ERA in 7 2/3 IP for the Phillies last season. He just turned 25 in October, so he might emerge as a decent reliever someday.
